The Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center (NACC) is the city’s animal sheltering facility. The NACC is an open-admission shelter; animals are never turned away, regardless of species, age, health or temperament. This data reports on an animal from the moment it arrives at the shelter (intake) to the moment it leaves (outcome). It also reports on foster activities. This data is updated monthly.

This dataset includes data on all real estate parcels in the city of Norfolk that are at least one quarter behind on taxes. Payments are processed as received requiring frequent updates to the data for accuracy. City deferral and senior tax relief programs may impact r-portable data. The tax rate, penalty rate and interest rate are prescribed by city ordinance.

Information containing the master list of valid street names in the City. Street names may include a directional that is fully spelled out (i.e., East, West, North, or South) depending on how the street name was legally recorded. Those streets with a pre-directional (i.e., N, S, E, W) before the street name will be listed twice in this index, once under the first letter of the street name and again using the pre-direction. For example, W Brambleton Avenue will be listed both under W and under B. Street status field also indicates where a street is located: city, military base, or crosses over both military base and city.

Addresses in this dataset are classified by status which indicates if an address is an active valid address, a pending address which is a place holder and not yet validated, or a historical address which is no longer an active valid address in the city. Addresses are also identified by type of Base or City. Base addresses are included for some areas because the City has an emergency response agreement.

This dataset contains data on Work Orders performed by field crews from the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Department of Transit, and the Environmental Storm Water Management and Streets & Bridges Divisions of the Department of Public Works. The data comes from the city’s implementation of CentralSquare’s Enterprise Asset Management platform, also known as Lucity. This dataset is updated daily on weekdays.

Norfolk Community Services Board (CSB) is the primary provider of public mental health, substance abuse, intellectual /developmental disabilities and substance use disorder in Norfolk, VA. The continuum of services provided by the CSB spans from outreach and prevention through intensive psychiatric care. CSB services are provided by clinical service professionals with expertise in these service areas.

This dataset is a monthly breakdown of certain services that CSB provides Norfolk’s residents. These services include mental health, developmental, substance abuse, and emergency services. These services do not make up all the services that CSB provides, that include services such as infant and toddler and specific grant-funded services. A total hourly duration for the month is provided, as well as details on the type of service that was provided. This dataset will be updated monthly.

This dataset contains information from the City’s towing database. The data includes: a list of vehicles currently on the City’s impound lot, VINs, the address where the vehicle was towed and why it was towed and the disposition of the vehicle (sold at auction, released to owner, etc.). This dataset is updated daily.
**Important Notice: This fees included in this data are calculated on the day the vehicle is released from city custody. Fees for vehicles still held by the City will be calculated at the time of release and are not considered accurate until that time.

First, a caveat: the NFIP data does NOT provide information specific to individual homes or parcels. This information is protected under federal law. All personal identifying information about policy holders has been redacted, and data has been anonymized to census tract, reported ZIP code, and one decimal point digit of latitute and longitude. If mapped, flood insurance policies and claims may appear to be clustered at a particular location due to this anonymization.
What all that means: you cannot search for an address to see whether it has flooded.
However, among many things, this data shows flooding trends in Norfolk over the last 40+ years. It shows the census tracts that flood most frequently. And it shows where the largest number and highest value of claims occur.

FEMA believes this historic release of NFIP data promotes transparency, reduces complexity related to public data requests, and improves how stakeholders interact with and understand the program. This is the largest, most comprehensive release of NFIP data coordinated by FEMA to date. This dataset allows for customizable searches to create reports, analyze and visualize present and historical NFIP data faster and easier than before.
This data will help FEMA build a national culture of preparedness by providing claims and policy information people need to make better choices about their flood risk and the insurance they need to protect the life they've built.
Norfolk's Open Data team extracted city-specific information from the FEMA dataset. The dataset included here represents almost 6,000 claims on record from 1977 through 2019, totaling 67 million dollars in damage in the City of Norfolk.

This dataset provides information about all Neighborhood Quality code enforcement open and closed cases along with their associated inspections, violations, and status information. All Neighborhood Quality data is collected and reported from the Neighborhood Quality code enforcement office.
Neighborhood Quality code enforcement’s mission is to maintain and strengthen neighborhood standards. The City of Norfolk’s approach to code enforcement is to use all tools to achieve compliance. These tools include educating civic leagues, citizens, and the public in understanding the scope of enforcement. Other tools are working with homeowners to help establish timelines for projects, and legal steps for abatement. This data entered will reflect that workflow of a responsive customer-oriented organization using tools to accomplish compliance. This web-based tool consolidates entry of Code Enforcement cases to one central application in correspondence with this initiative. All codes cited are from the city of Norfolk’s Codes Chapter 25 which covers Vehicle and Property and Chapter 27 which covers nuisances.
