This dataset provides data from the Norfolk Division of Neighborhood Quality’s code enforcement cases including associated inspections, violations and status. The mission of the Division of Neighborhood Quality is to maintain and strengthen neighborhood standards. Staff use a variety of tools to achieve compliance including educating civic leagues, residents and the public about neighborhood quality. Other tools include working with homeowners to establish timelines for projects or pursuing legal steps for abatement. This data reflects the workflow of a responsive customer-oriented organization.

This dataset shows a listing of all short term rental properties actively registered with the City of Norfolk. A short term rental is either a vacation rental (not the owner’s primary residence) or homestay (the owner’s primary residence). It can be registered administratively with the City or by applying for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). This dataset will be updated monthly.

The dataset contains demographic and case characteristics of children in foster care each month. The dataset includes the children’s sex, age, race, goal and average time spent in foster care in Norfolk. The data is from Virginia’s Online Automated Services Information System (OASIS). OASIS is a comprehensive system that tracks the day-to-day activities performed by social workers statewide and is the official case record system for foster care and adoption cases in Virginia.

This dataset details the work accomplished by staff at the Norfolk Department of Human Services with the goal of finding safe, permanent homes for children in Norfolk’s foster care system. This dataset is updated monthly.

The Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center (NACC) is the city’s animal sheltering facility. The NACC is an open-admission shelter; animals are never turned away, regardless of species, age, health or temperament. This data reports on an animal from the moment it arrives at the shelter (intake) to the moment it leaves (outcome). It also reports on foster activities. This data is updated monthly.

Data for the service requests is collected from phone calls, emails, an app for smart phones and on-line. The portal is managed by the Norfolk Cares Center; its mission is to provide a single point of contact for visitors, residents, businesses and city staff to request a city service, report a concern, seek information about Norfolk, or follow-up on a previous request for service.

These tools include educating civic leagues, citizens, and the public in understanding the scope of enforcement. Other tools are working with homeowners to help establish timelines for projects, and legal steps for abatement. This data entered will reflect that workflow of a responsive customer-oriented organization using tools to accomplish compliance. This web-based tool consolidates entry of Code Enforcement cases to one central application in correspondence with this initiative. All codes cited are from the city of Norfolk’s Codes Chapter 25 which covers Vehicle and Property and Chapter 27 which covers nuisances.
